Jeff Tom, MD, MS
Assistant Investigator, Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, Hawaii
Dr. Tom is a board-certified and practicing pediatrician whose current research interest is in how health information technology can improve access to care, quality of care, and outcomes for children, especially those with chronic disease. With a 2010 Academic Pediatric Association Young Investigator Award, he studied use patterns of Group Health’s electronic shared medical record and whether use was associated with more positive primary care experiences among children with chronic disease. He will continue this work by evaluating Kaiser Permanente’s electronic shared medical record as well as lead the effort to incorporate standardized shared medical record data into Kaiser’s Comparative Effectiveness and Safety Research Virtual Data Warehouse. Dr. Tom’s previous research studies have utilized large claims and administrative databases from BlueCross BlueShield in Hawaii and Group Health Cooperative in Washington.
