Glen H. Murata, MD


Alan S. Go, MDProfessor of Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and Director of the Outcomes Research Program at the New Mexico VA Health Care System

Dr. Murata has been independently funded as a health services researcher for many years and published extensively on the outcomes of care for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, end-stage renal failure, and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Murata has an interest in multivariate modeling, decision algorithms, telemedicine, and clinical trials evaluating novel health care delivery systems. He led the team that developed the computer systems and databases that support clinical research at the NMVAHCS and its academic affiliates. Dr. Murata is the PI for the Diabetes Outcomes in Veteran Study (DOVES) - a multi-year study of risk factor control among Southwestern veterans with type 2 diabetes. His most recent grant examines disparities in insulin use among minorities in the American Southwest.

Dr. Murata is also the Director of Research for Project ECHO – an AHRQ-supported program that uses telemedicine to deliver care to remote regions of the state. The program will be expanded to include medically underserved regions of several foreign countries. Finally, Dr. Murata is PI of a multi-center trial that examines the impact of self-monitoring of blood glucose on provider decisions, patient behaviors, and glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.
