Catherine McNeal, MD, PhD


Alan S. Go, MDCo-Director, Children’s Cardiovascular Health Clinic and Co-Director, Women’s Cardiovascular Health Clinic Scott & White, Temple, TX; Assistant. Professor of Internal Medicine, and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Texas A&M Health Science Center

Dr. McNeal is a practicing internist (within the Division of Cardiology) and pediatrician (within the Division of endocrinology). Her time is split equally between patient care and clinical/basic research. Patient care duties are focused on evaluating and treating adults and children at risk for CVD.

She has also recently helped to establish a new program for women’s CV health with an emphasis on community-based free screening for CVD.

Her research interests are in the development and utilization of surrogate markers of vascular health in children and identification and evaluation of lipoprotein disorders in children and adults. Her current interests in this area focus broadly on lipoprotein-a and atherogenic HDL composition and function. This research involves collaboration with the Texas A&M Cardiovascular Chemistry Laboratory focusing on the development of novel analytical approaches to evaluate lipoprotein particle composition.
