Steering Committee - Biography
Tracy Lieu, MD, MPH
Professor in the Departments of Ambulatory Care and Prevention and of Pediatrics, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Harvard Medical School.
In her primary department, she is Director of Faculty Development and Director of the Center for Child Health Care Studies, a research group whose goal is to improve children’s health through studies that enhance health care decisions by policymakers, clinicians, and parents.
Dr. Lieu is an expert in economic evaluation and in the use of large databases for the study of health outcomes. She is co-principal investigator of the Harvard site of the CDC-sponsored Vaccine Safety Datalink Project, which links datasets from multiple health plans for surveillance of vaccine-related outcomes including potential adverse events. She is also principal investigator of the Joint Initiative in Vaccine Economics, which supports collaborative research by CDC and Harvard investigators. Dr. Lieu also studies ways to reduce disparities and improve health care quality for families with chronic conditions. Her research emphasizes incorporating patient-centered outcomes and values in policy decisions.
Dr. Lieu has served on many national policymaking committees, including the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. She is a voting member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which makes authoritative national recommendations for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is the Children’s Hospital Site Director of the Harvard Pediatric Health Services Research fellowship and practices as a part-time pediatrician with Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.
