The Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation (MCRF)
Marshfield Clinic is an integrated system with >700 physicians serving ~370,000 patients through 40 regional clinics in Central and Northwestern Wisconsin. Marshfield Clinic also sponsors a managed care organization, Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., which includes ~120,000 enrollees. MCRF is a non-profit research facility with 30 MD and PhD scientists in epidemiology, genetics, clinical research, rural health and safety, and biomedical informatics. MRCF has ~500 active research studies with cardiology among the 5 most active specialties for Phase II and Phase III trials. Key strengths include a complete EMR and clinical data repository; a rural population-based study area; and Personalized Medicine Project involving >19,000 patients with extensive collected data and biospecimens to facilitate genetic and non-genetic studies. MCRF led all 200+ centers that enrolled patients into the NHLBI-sponsored AFFIRM study. Also MCRF served as NHLBI's Mammalian Genotyping Service for more than a decade, contributing to >165 research projects. MCRF is conducting an AHRQ-sponsored trial of enhanced modeling to improve safety of warfarin prescribing, and an NIGMS-funded study of the pharmacogenetics of statins.
